I missed what the first question was, but I have 200K on my '89 and it runs
as good today as it did new. The lifter noise at startup is a little louder
after sitting overnight, but not much. I haven't checked compression in a
while, but last time I did the numbers were right on the money. I believe
that the synthetic oil I used in the last 100+K miles definitely helped.

The only major engine item I replaced was the timing chain at about 190K.
The only reason I changed it was that I noticed that the timing mark was
starting to jump around when I was setting the timing. The chain was not
bad, just a little stretched. At first I thought that it would have a nylon
tooth gear, but it had a double roller. Nice surprise! The nylon gear was
always the weak spot in the car version of the CC smallblock.

BTW, the best thing I ever did was the TSB for the valve cover gaskets. If
you have not done this to your non-magnum, you should. I have not had a
leak in the 100K miles since I did it (same gasket). This is after changing
the stupid things 3 times before with regular gaskets. I forget the PN, but
I am sure that any good parts counterperson at a dealer would know.

Thanks,
Rob Weingart
