Yup, I'm in Canada, and they are illegal just about everywhere (I think
they are still legal in Alberta and maybe Sask.). In Ontario, you get
charged with "Use of a radar detection device" ($700-800 ticket, loss =
of
the detector, 6 points on the license, and reporting to your insurance
company of "major" traffic offense (same as DUI, careless driving, or
fleeing from the police)). If they want to be real pricks, they can =
also
charge you with "importation and possession of contraband", which is a
felony (but takes a bunch of time for them to prove that you brought it
in from the US yourself. Serious shit...

Wow....
Detectors are legal now, I still don't use one. When I lived in VA =
they
where illegal along with CT. When I moved back up to CT they must have
changed the law. Now you see a lot of people with them mounted on =
there
windshield. I wonder what they used to charge if they caught you?

I have the V1 and like it a lot. Its larger than the Bel, so you have =
to
watch out if you're in "radar detectors are illegal" country (like I =
am)
as its visable on the dash. My bud has a Bel, and it worked well until
the police removed it from his possession after picking it up with VG2
(radar detector detection equipment they have in the cruisers), even
though Bel said it was "undetectable". Bel did send him a 'new' model
which was really supposed to be undetectable, but didn't pay is $800+
ticket for having the detector...
