Will the Thorley cross-over fit the stock manafolds? Are there any other
manufacturers of cross-over pipes available to fit the stock manafold
dimensions as well?
Thanks,

Thanks Tate. I think you and Jon had mentioned the heat angle before...
The
thing is, it used to ping when the engine was cold too. It pinged after I
put a
180 T-stat in as well...

Anyway, if I read you right, exhaust back pressure and flow rates don't have

anything to do with engine ping, correct?

Your engine is running cooler - better heat dissipation. Voila - no
more ping!

Actually, the Magnum manifolds flow very well.....for manifolds.
Replace that god-awful y pipe and you'll probably see even a bigger
difference in performance. Unless you got MP or Thorley headers -
then you already did it - haha!!

I was talking to a mechanic friend of mine yesterday and I told him
how I
had a slight amount of engine knock or ping before I installed
headers.
Now that they are installed there is not even a hint of ping anywhere
in
the RPM range under any load condition with a hot or cold engine and I
still use the cheapo 87 octane gas....

He thought the stock manifolds may have been causing an excessive
amount of
back pressure and that might be what was making the engine ping a
little
bit... Does this make sense to the pros out there??

I'm happy as a clam that the ping is gone --Just still curious as to
why
it's gone.

Thanks.

T.
