Hi, folks! I'm a new Dakota owner and list member as of this week. I just
bought a grey '92 Dakota Club Cab Sport 4x4, V-6, pretty basic trim plus
factory (crappy) AM/FM/Cass and A/C, plus an aftermarket chrome lightbar.
The truck has 60k miles and was purchased from the original owner. I looked
at Ford Rangers and Toyota Pickups against the Dakota, and have owned an '88
Chev K2500 4x2 and '75 Chev Blazer 4x4 most recently. The Dakota won out
over the Toyota in the end because of a better engine (HP and mpg both
better), and larger bed, which I'll use to tote around motorcycles and my
two labrador retrievers who can't ever seem to swim enough.

So far I'm in love with this truck. I've got the fuel sender problem which
looks to be common to this truck after a quick poke through the archives,
plus a small engine oil leak that drops about 2 or 3 drops onto my garage
floor a night. Everything else looks good, though I'll have to upgrade to
the new A/C coolant at some point, upgrade the stereo and remove the chrome
light bar and add a canopy. My first tank of gas got me over 17 mpg, great
since my commute is 27 mi each way, half freeway, half surface streets.

I'll poke around through the archives a bit more, but is there a common set
of low-buck performance upgrades that help the Magnum V-6 breathe a bit
easier (like a K&N filter and larger diameter exhaust, perhaps)? I'm
looking to keep/increase fuel mileage and power and hear a bit more rumble,
(probably in that order).
