I had about 53,000 on my '96 when my rearend went. They said
everything was torn up pretty good, but the main things were
the spider gears and the carrier. My first symptoms were a
clunk while turning. At first it felt like running over a
branch or a rock or something, the later I could actually feel a
"catch" as I turned. There may be other symptoms, but one
thing to watch for is that clunk or snap while turning.
