Hmmmmm... Why don't you ask to see the dealer's invoice for the vehicle, Don?
Every dealership I've ever been too has always given me a copy or even faxed me
a copy of the invoice for a vehicle that they thought I might be interested in.
I don't even look at the MSRP or Sticker on the window of a new vehicle. I
ended buying my Dak for the invoice price... I don't remember but I think that
price was 2-3k off the sticker.

I used MS's carpoint to just give me an idea of prices and options, but I
negotiated from the dealer invoice. I will say that the Carpoint numbers were
right on the money for my '98 Kota. Don't know why they are off for the '99's.

It's true dealers have a hold back from the factory (usually 3%) but it's rare
that they'll cut into that unless they really have to move some vehicles off the
lot. As far as I know the dealer invoice is what they paid for the vehicle and
is therefore their true cost... Hold backs, volume incentives and factory
incentives are ways that they can make $$ on the deal. Make sure you get every
factory discount that's out there the dealer may or may not tell you about all
of them!

Good luck!

T.

Dealers also get kickbacks from the factory for volume and type of vehicle.
They also get a check from Chrysler for 3% of the sale price. Basically the
dealer invoice is no idication of the true dealer cost. Many dealers belong
to a "Group" which owns many dealerships so they can get bigger discounts or
incentives from Crysler. I negotiated my 1999 Dakota CC SLT to $23,390.
The original MSRP was $25490, then in the Denver area they have a Reigional
markup of $5000.(what a joke!!!) My SLT is loaded...power everything, tow
package, Infinity CD/CASS/AM-FM 8 speaker, remote keyless, overhead consol,
and they even threw in a bed liner.

RR,

carpoint.msn.com is neat and easy to use but their msrp,
much less invoice, is inaccurate. Trust me. I just got my
99' 4x4 SLT Club Cab v8, auto, 4FT. And when I compared
the sticker with carpoint, I was very disappointed. I was trying
to negotiate based on the info from carpoint. Since I special
ordered mine, it was to late by the time I saw the actual sticker.
www.stoneage.com is right on the target with their pricing.

Subject: DML: 99 Invoice Price List

Hello DML,
I am negotiating with a dealer right now for a new Dakota 4x4 SLT
Club Cab V8, Auto.

It looks like I am going to get a real good deal on it but I need the
invoice
price list for 99 so I can cross check to be sure.

I have the one for 98 that I got from Edmunds.com but I'm not sure what
prices may have changed for 99.

Does anybody know how I can get the 99 invoice price list
(showing options & costs) for Dakota?

Thanks in advance for any help. You guys got a great list here :-)
