Just my observation:
Unocal or Chevron 87 - no knock except on hot days at WOT
Mobil 87 - knocked big time (corn popping in there?) on a 70 deg evening
at WOT
I am going to stick with Unocal or Chevron and put in some 89 on hot
days. I always use 92 when towing.

Well , guess what ?
I have noticed that with increasing regularity that when
my R/T is hot and
I get on the throttle hard that I can hear it starting
to ping !
Yes , I am running 87 octane , but I don't have my JET
chip on the truck
right now and basically all I have is the 180 stat and
the FABM .
I did notice a TSB on this listed ;
Service Bulletin Number: 971231183497
Bulletin Sequence Number: 488
Date of Bulletin: 9805
NHTSA Item Number: SB600487
Make: DODGE TRUCK
Model: DAKOTA
Year: 1998
Component: ENGINE
Summary: CONDITION WITH ENGINE MAY SPARK KNOCK WHEN WARM
UNDER
MODERATE TO HEAVY ACCELERATION. *YC
This is exactly what mine is doing .
Anyone else with or without an R/T having this problem ?
Mine has almost 9k on it now .
