Re R/T pinging and speed limiter

The Duster 340 was a 3-speed automatic with 3.23 limited slip
differential. They did not have overdrive in the '70. It may
have reached 140 mph but I backed off when I saw an OPP (Ontario
Provincial Police) car on the overhead beyond me.

'70 was the first year for the Duster. The '71s had a little
more emission controls on it but a better carb in that it handled
the vapour lock problem that many of the muscle cars had.
For my money, I'd go with the '70. Anything after '71, the 340 was detoxed
quite a bit.

My '71 Roadrunner 340 also had the same setup as the Duster.
While I did not open the RR up, my guess was that it would do
about 125 mph. The RR's weight is closer to the R/T Dak, maybe
100 lbs. or so less.

My '70 Challenger 383 will probably do 130-135 mph and its weight is
about the same as the RR.

As far as carbon build up on the throttle plate, I have experienced this
on quite a few of the newer Chysler products although not at 9000K but it
is a possiblility. If the plate is aok, try moving up another grade
(89 octane) of gas for a while. While the advertised octane are a
lot more accurate than before, you may be just on the edge when you open up
the RT.
