Yep, the GVW isn't the vehicle's weight, but its "weight rating" (GVWR).
I believe you can get your vehicle's (approximate) weight by taking the
GVWR and subtracting the payload capacity. I think that would give you the
vehicle's "dry" weight. (i.e. empty fuel tank.) If you want to get the
weight with fuel in the tank, add 6 lbs for every gallon of gas.
