:-) Yep, I've wanted to make a Dakota classifieds page for a
long time, but I've been procrastinating. :-) I also run an
ultralight home page, and I've got classifieds on that. The way
I set that up was the pages are just "normal" HTML files;
the ads get e-mailed to me, and I update 'em by hand. That
really got to be a handful. (They're pretty busy; I've got
about 2100 ads online at the moment.) I've been doing it
that way for a few years. I started to write a custom database
engine for 'em so that I could all but eliminate my involvement.
I was going to wait until that was done to create Dakota
classifieds (so I could use the database for both). To make a
long story short, I started on the database a few times, but it
always got pre-empted. Instead, I made some optimizations to
make the whole process a lot less painful; that's where it
stands now. So, I'll go ahead and do the Dakota classifieds
the same way that I do 'em for my other site. (Eventually I'll
automate 'em, make them searchable, etc. Not until I get some
more time though.)
