Jules,
I actually tried that (more or less). It still ran rough, making me
suspicious of the "wet contact" theory. Sooo I took it into work.
The failure analysis (from "the lab"):
excessive corrosion on the male pins (tin plated bronze) when wet, the
contacts "grew" and created salts that increased the resistance of the
connections. These signals going through these pins appear to be pretty low
level stuff, so, the possible failure mode = no signal strength. In
addition, the plastic housing is warping a small amount due to the close
proximity to the airbox lid, causing reduced contact interference on the top
row of pins...
Must work good on the Ram though...

maybe you could remove it... wash it... run to the track with it out... use
air flow and eng comp heat to dry things up... install at track and maybe
no probs w/water...huh?
