I believe that hose is the bypass hose.
Below are the Service Manual suggested steps for removing the water pump.
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove throttle cable at the top of the fan shroud.
4. Unsnap coolant overflow tank (up and out) from fan shroud.
Do not disconnect hose or drain from tank.
5. Remove upper rad hose clamp and hose at rad.
6. Remove the thermal/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump
by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front.
Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pully bolts to
prevent pulley from rotating. Do not attemp to remove the
fan/viscous fan drive assembly from truck at this time.
7. If pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blad assembly
from thermal viscous fan drive.
8. Remove fan shroud attching hardware (2 bolts at bottom; 2
clips at top).
9. Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly
from truck as a complete unit.
10. After step 9, DO NOT place thermal viscous fan drive in a
horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid
in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly
and contaminate lubricant.
11. DO NOT remove water pump bolts at this time.
12. Remove accesory drive belt as follows. The drive belt is
equipped with a spring loaded automatic tensioner. Relax
tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise as viewed
from front. When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove
accessory drive belt.
13. Remove 4 water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and remove
pulley from truck.
14. Remove lower rad. hose clamp and remove hose from rad.
15. Remove heater hose coolant return tube mounting bolt and
remove tube from water pump. Discard the old tube O-ring.
16. Remove 7 water pump mounting bolts.
17. Loosen clamp at water pump end of bypass hose. Slip bypass
hose from water pump while removing pump from truck.
Do not pry pump at timing chain case/cover. The machined
surfaces may be damage resulting in leaks.
Discard old gasket.
Good luck.
