MOPAR back cat exhaust system

I just picked up the 3" 97 MOPAR cat back setup for my 98 thinking they
would be the same. In the instructions it says in caps that it does not fit
pre 97 or after 97 models.
Has anyone tried to put the 97 system on a 98? If it didn't require cutting
then I would just try it and see but don't want to be caught with my pants
down.
