  LEVitating Mopar

  The Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) race is on. DaimlerChrysler's Mopar
parts division for Chrysler products has become the first supplier to
attain LEV exemption status from the California Air Resources Board
(CARB). The exemption makes certain bolt-on parts legal in all 50
states for 1999 and earlier models.
  It affects the 4.0-liter inline six Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand
Cherokee, the 5.2- and 5.9-liter V8s in the 1998 and earlier Jeep Grand
Cherokee, Dodge Dakota, Durango and Ram, and the 8.0-liter V10 Dodge
Ram.
  Exempt parts for each engine are cold air intake/low resistance air
cleaners; performance modules to retune the engine control computer;
performance camshafts; exhaust headers; and performance ("cat-back")
exhaust systems.

  If anyone "knows someone" at Mopar Performance Parts, please feel free
to lay this piece of news on them (and give us the result!).
