Blowing both the headlights at the same time sounds suspiciously like a
electrical problem.
!st, was the engine running when the lights blew? If not there goes my theory.
But if it was, there could have been a voltage surge from either a stuck voltage
regulator if a momentary loss of ground at the battery. It might be a good idea
to get an accurate digital voltmeter and see how much voltage appears at the
headlight sockets with the engine running above idle speed and no other
electrical equipment operating. Should not exceed 14.2 volts max. Better around
13.8-14.0. Higher voltages besides being hard on electrical components will make
the battery electrolyte boil out. Also make sure the negative battery cable is
tight at both ends.
