Wierd Problem

I have a '96 3.9L 4x4 Dakota. Everything is stock except for a K&N (if
that matters). I have two glitchs.

1) Starting out in the morning, when it's cold (< 20 ) I will start,
be going down my merry way, shift to 2nd accellerate and somewhere in
that accelleration I go to minimal power (like if I let up on the
accellerator or there were a bubble in the fuel line), I generally
slam 2/3 the way down on the accellerator and then things return back
to normal after a second. (BTW, the fuel pump was replaced on this
thing by the previous owner for some reason). This may also be related
to shifting to second with too few RPMs (because it kind of feels like
I am in the wrong gear) but I kind of doubt it because of the initial
accelleration ability.

2) The engine has cut out twice on me usually due to undercompensation
as far as RPMs in 4x4 mode. I go to start the engine, after it started
fine and this time the starter just goes and goes. It's not like it
has no battery power, it's like the starter is not catching. Any
suggestions there? I have pulled the battery cabels on and off quite a
bit to do electrical work on the truck, could that contribute to the
problem?

Also I'd still really appriciate it if someone could tell me where
Dodge says the red and yellow lines are on the tachometer.

Thanks,

Ryan
