Rich Jim et al,
I have installed a few remote oil filters on vehicles (non Daks) out of
necessity due to engine swaps or header clearances etc. You must be
carefull to get the right type of hose in the right length and route it the
right way... What is right you may ask...
The stuff that comes in the kits is good hose for low temp applications. I
would thermally insulate it, even if it is steel braided (Im paranoid) The
length is determined by the mounting location of the filter head AND the
maximum torque rotation of your motor! DONT FORGET ABOUT IT!! This is key!
Route the hoses a little too short, launch hard, and watch your ride start
smoking under the hood. Big fire ususally ensues. (this is, embarrassingly
enough, from personal experience). Make sure you avoid exhaust system
components (including EGR pipes) or the same thing happens. I try not to
use remote filters if I can avoid it for the engine oil any more due to the
drastic consequences of a "failure" for whatever the cause... more
joints/connections = more potential to leak!

Jim,
I'm with you. I grumble about the mess it makes everytime I change the
filter. It runs down and back the side of the oil pan, and that's only if
you get lucky and don't manage to slop it on something else as well. I
would appreciate this as well.

Has anyone on the list gotten tired of spilling oil, and installed a remote
oil filter? I was wondering specifically about experience with the $40 TD
kit in the Summit catalog. I´m also not certain where a good location would
be with 4x4 clearance in mind.

Maybe this would be a group buy opportunity?
