I called JBA today myself (really helpful folks to talk to) and spoke to
Mark as Joe was out sick...

To add a few items to the good Dr.'s report... I get a grinding sound from
my stock down pipes which I think is caused by them rubbing on my skid
plate under acceleration. According to Mark, the two piece design of the
JBA pipes allows for some wiggle room that should allow me to keep them off
whatever they are hitting. I talked about getting them coated (like my
headers) and he recommended I didn't. The reason for this was that the
more secure way to attach the pipe to the cat was to have it welded on
rather than using clamps. He said clamps would probably work, but a weld
would be a more solid/long term arrangement. I got the same word as far as
HP/Torque increase, price and time frame. I'm not sure if I'm going to lay
out the cash just yet, but I will say it's a pleasure dealing with this
company.

FYI, I just spoke to Jeff at JBA about the 97 Dak 5.2. He said that the
y-pipes will be out in the 2nd week of Feb but not to hold him to that date???
They will add 2-6 hp to whatever header you've got incl. stock manifold. They
will be nickel-plated 14 ga. steel. List(highest) price will be about $160. He
also said that the shorty headers add 17-22 hp.
Usually the better your system, the less you can improve it. If you've got a
cat back, look for the lower end of the range. If you are running stock
everything, you'll get more hp gains.
Since I've got a Gibson cat back, I expect about 17hp from the headers and I
think I'll pass on the 2 hp. y-pipe. If you've got lots of mods and are moving
plenty air you may benefit from it however. For the hard chargers, every
little bit helps.
