I've only got a tiny little 318, but mine does the same thing... The only time
mine drops below the midpoint is when I come to a stop after I've been really
getting on it (like during a spanking session or just having some fun). I think
this is normal.

What kind of oil are you running , Allen ?
I use Mobil 1 and I have noticed that mine varies as well .
