Shave off tranny fins?

My ATR Y pipe is making contact with my NV3500 tranny, and besides
making an annoying noise, I'm worried about heat transfer. Its
making contact with the "fin" that runs along the bottom of the tranny.
It appears to be a fin for strength as opposed to cooling, so I'm also
worried about what might happen if I try to shave it back some. Would
it weaken the tranny?

Any drawbacks to shaving that fin down a bit to get some more clearance
for the Y pipe?

And on a related note, does anyone know how to add a tranny temp
guage to the NV3500? I'd like to get one.

Thanks in advance!!
