In a message dated 99-02-12 11:52:20 EST, you write:

Youīll notice a big improvement in power when your running on the cam
< again, instead of 5 or 10 degrees retarded (cam timing).
<I replaced the stock chain with the Mopar Performance double-row chain -
< like two motorcycle chains next to each other - and it comes with a set of
< sprockets. Itīs not noticeably noisier, and from what I hear, lasts longer
than the <stock Hi-Vee chain. Supposedly less friction too. The MP sprockets
can be <indexed by using different keyway notches to move the cam +/- 5
degrees, I think.
<I didnīt replace the distributor, still going at 155k indicated (170
actual?).
< Pretty certain itīs the same part for a V6 or V8.
< When you get it, pick up a new timing chain gasket, the short hose going
< from the water pump to the block, thermostat, and if youīre ambitious, hoses
and <water pump - youīll be taking all that apart anyway. You donīt need a new
oil pan
< gasket, the factory rubber gasket is the best you can get - just clean it
well, and
< put a dab of silicone seal in the corners. Oh, and keep the fan clutch
horizontal <after removal, or the Si stuff leaks out (or so Iīve heard). >>

I called the dealer today to see how much parts would be. The guy said a
'sprocket package' would run $55 and this includes the 2 sprockets and the
timing chain. Not too bad! He said I would also need a tensioner for $38.75
and 3 gaskets totalling $15. Right now, I am very pleased knowing the parts,
so far, will be around $100! I am not worried about any other part replacing
at this time, since my truck has never come close to overheating. Why did you
mention the oil pan gasket? It doesnt leak now, but do I hav to take it off
when doing the timing chain???? But if I take the various parts off and see
they could be replaced, I will. Thanks for your response, I am checking out
prices for the Mopar Perfomance chain. Thanks again.
