new to list 93 dakota 3.9 liter 80,000 miles, about 75,000 of them
trouble free. since about thanksgiving i have been having an
intermittant problem that occurs when the engine is cold. when
accelerating usually in say third gear, which kind of lugs the engine,
the whole drivetrain unloads, the engine starts clattering like a spark
knock, it backfires, and shakes.

what i think is happening is the computer is advancing the timing based
on signals sensors are sending, but one of theses signals has to be
wrong. i'm concerned that i am going to damage a piston if not all six
with the knocking going on when this happens.

anybody had a problem similar to this? any of your thoughts would be
appreciated...
