Well,
True duals or to a Y?? 2 2.5s Ying together exceeds the 3" area of your
collector! The 3" collector is the restriction... 2x2.25 is still more
area than 1 3" pipe... The goal is to keep the velocities high but just
below the speed of sound... Sounds kinda fast, but in an exhaust system
thats the goal! Too big is actually a detriment cause it reduces scavanging
AND acts as a restriction, but as long as they Y to a 3" your AOK...

2.5 is not too big for a 318. Thats what I run with a 3" mopar cat back and
would not have it any other way.

Jav,
I would have one made up custom only if the shop is able to mandrel bend the
tubing without crimping it. If they cant, find a place that can or buy a
set that is mandrel bent. No magic, but smooth bends are a must! 2.5"
diameter is a little big on a 318 to maintain bottom end torque...Even on a
non magnum smallblock...

With all this talk of replacing the Y pipes, has anyone ever gone to an
exhaust shop and had one made instead of going with the aftermarket Y pipes?
My friend had one made and installed on his '64 Chevelle for around $120 and
he was very pleased. They were 2 1/2" pipes. What would be the drawback to
having one made versus buying an aftermarket Y pipe? What do you guys think?
If my DT's had not brought one, I would have had one made.
