Mitch,
It should not be that loud. I assume you've checked the exhaust system;
muffler, cat, pipes? Also check the exhaust manifolds. I wouldn't imagine
they would be cracked or anything, but providing everything else is ok check
and see if they might be loose.

Subject: DML: Loud Exhaust

I've recently purchased a 1993 Dakota Sport V6, and while I'm very happy
with the truck, I am troubled by one thing. The exhaust system seems
unusually loud. I'm not talking performance loud (god, nothing sounds better
than a throaty V-8 through a nice set of duals) but annoying loud. Cruising
at highway speeds it's not bad, but when you accelerate it's gets bad. Even
at idle, I've had a couple of occasions where people who were standing near
the truck commented on the noise level and asked if I needed a new muffler.
Speaking of which, the muffler was replaced and a small exhaust leak was
fixed a few weeks ago when it was inspected which did quiet it down a little
but nothing really substantial. The major part of the noise sounds like
exhaust gas resonating through the pipes. My question is, are the V-6's
supposed to be loud? I've driven plenty of V-8's in my time but nothing as
loud as this. Any info and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
