I just installed the MP Cast Air Filter on my R/T tonight.. boy what a
PIA. First off the catalog says it is a uses a 14" element. So I ordered
a K and N 14x3 filter for it. Well the Filter is actually a 13" unit. It
has no provisions for a pcv valve. So I went to the store and bought a
cheap filter assembly and used the fitting off of it. After some hole
drilling and a generous amount of RTV to seal it. The I had to rig it so
the 5/8" hose for the PVC valve would connect to the 1/2" fitting I got
with the other air cleaner. I changed the upper radiator hose to a 96
Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 hose ( part # 52079559) and installed a 180 deg.
thermostat. I fabricated an S-bolt ( came with the MP air cleaner ).
Then I checked for hood clearance.. I couldn't even close the hood. The
front of the air cleaner was way to high. I spent about an hour and half
using a vice and a hammer to the base so it would slant down towards the
front. The filter now sit horizontal to the ground and not with the
engine. It is still touching the pad just a little. I'm running the
paper element in it now but will probably go with a 13x2 3/4 if K and N
makes such a beast..
Now the good news, it looks great. And after a test drive... holy $|-| !
T... what a difference.
