I use Mobil 1 10W-30; I change my oil and filter every 3,000 miles. (I
think that's about 4800km?) Your first few oil changes should be more
frequent though. I didn't know about this at the time, so my first oil
change was at 3,000mi, but if I got another new vehicle (or engine), I'd
probably change it at 500, 1,000, 3,000 then every 3,000 thereafter.
(Maybe even 200-300, 800, 1500, 3000 if I was feeling paranoid...)

Some cars come with synthetic from the factory, but many people (some of
them mechanics) recommend breaking in with dino oil to allow the engine to
properly break in. You want some wear at the beginning... I have seen
advertisements for special "break in" oils which cause more friction than
normal oil to help the engine to break in. (I don't recall the
manufacturer or wether its an aviation or automotive oil, maybe someone
else knows more about it?) I used Mobil 10W30 for 10,000 miles then
switched to Mobil 1 10W30. The average person runs dino oil exclusively in
their engines all the time, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to run it for the
first 10K.
