Subject: DML: My experience with JET Stage 2 (1997 318 Auto)

With all of the talk about the benefits or lack thereof of this product, I
thought I'd add my experience. I ordered a JET Stage 2 chip after receiving
no response from MP about my "off road use only" proposal. I received it
last week. I went to the track Saturday without it installed and made 6-7
runs, the best of which was a 15.78. Saturday afternoon I installed the
chip, added a brass cap and performance rotor from Accel and flipped the air
filter holddown assembly (the part that partially blocks the TB bores)
upside down so that it is near the filter lid and out of the way (per
suggestions from the list, Bruce I think). My Dakota has over 40,000 miles
on it, so the cap and rotor were in need of replacement. I was hoping for
at least .2 to .3 improvement in the 1/4 with the claims made by JET and the
anticipated benefit from the other 2 changes. I raced again Sunday with
nearly identical track and weather conditions. I had drived about 25 miles
with the JET Saturday and about 50 miles to the track on Sunday morning.
The vehicle went through serveral on/off cycles before reaching the track
(at least 10). The computer was reset during JET installation (negative
cable disconnected). What were the results?

I ran a best of 15.656. A gain of slightly over .1 Because I changed too
many variables and because conditions are never EXACTLY the same day to day
I can't definitively say the JET didn't offer some gain, but I would be hard
pressed to believe it gives anything near what is claimed. In order to have
done that my other changes would have to have hurt power which doesn't seem
possible.

My opinion is that I wasted $200+ dollars. I will be attempting to get my
money back. If that doesn't work, anybody interested in a very slightly
used JET chip for $125 or so? I wouldn't be...................
