New owner of a 93 !! (Bushings/Tranny issues)

I just bought a 5.2 93 4x2 and MAN does this thing kick all kinds of
BUTT over my old Toyota 4 banger...WOW!

OK, on to the important info ...

A lot of people mentioned upper control arm bushing problems with
headers ... my bushings need replacing (60K miles) and there are no
headers on the truck (but there WILL be). The point being that maybe it
is NOT the heat causing the problems...

The tranny I have is a auto-4 speed (I think it's a 727 from the docs).
It has the clutch lock-up type torque converter (I think I have the
lingo right). I notice that sometimes when I hit it off the line, that
the RPM stays at 2000 rpm until about 40 mph and then the tranny starts
grabbing hold. Is this normal for this special type of converter? It
isn't slipping in the truest sense - I know what that feels like - but
its almost as if I need to let out the clutch more - but I'm not driving
a stick...make sense to anyone???

Thanks...
Kevin
