RE: Dak R/T getting an awful spanking in the One Lap

If you make it out to Road Atlanta, say "hi" to Marc Guimont for me. He is
the driver of the Sonoma, and runs with me at the track in some local events
here in Ontario. The Sonoma I know quite well, and it has a "built" 4.3V6
putting out 320hp at the crank. Suspension is stock Sonoma, with a drop kit
and big meats on 17" wheels. Brakes are 4 wheel disk from a Vette I think.
Neat looking truck, and goes like stink. Oh yea, and Marc can certainly
drive :-)

As far as suspension goes, the R/T really isn't much more than a dropped 2
wheel drive chassis with some re-valved shocks and big sticky tires. No real
"technology" at work there, and pretty easy to make just about anything
handle as well with a 2" drop, something like Edlebrock IAS shocks, and big
meats with a short sidewall. Slap some "R" compound tires (like BFG GForces)
on a pig and it will handle too :-)

I suspect that the Dak is prob. running out of brakes, which would account
for the big time difference. Its really hard to loose that much time based
on power...

Most of these vehicles are heavily modified. The Mallett Corvettes are
supercharged and putting out over 650hp. Myself and several others will be
at Road Atlanta Friday am to see the group run, there are over 100 entrants
with all types of cars and trucks. Worth a trip if you are close to any of
the tracks. Check out the schedule at <http://www.onelapofamerica.com/>
Hopefully Road Atlanta will let us watch them run, got an Atlanta
connection checking in to it. Starts at about 8:30am.
