99 cc 5.2 Rough shifting into reverse

When I replaced the ring and pinion in my 99 I was looking as to why
my truck also "clunked" when shifting into reverse. I saw some play in the
ring and pinion (called backlash) some play in the spider gears, and some in
the splines where the axles slide into the spider gears. All added together
is enough to give a clunk when changing into reverse. I don't see how it
could be elimated.
