I just got my 98 back for this same problem(along with a problem of
not shifting out of 1st gear when racing) and the mechanic at the
dealer said that the play is normal, HOWEVER it was partially related
to the throttle pressure(correct me if I'm wrong) and when he fixed
my shifting problem the reverse-shifting problem reduced itself
immensely. My truck runs tons better now, just to let you know.
