Have you checked out the CheckMate one. It is a flush mount cover that f=
its between the side rails. They have a soft and a hard model. I have t=
he soft one, but I can't seem to find the time to install it.(my wife is =
in and out of the Hospital).

I always figured there weren't any bugs left for the tailgate
since they all kamikazed on my windshield :-)
IMHO the tailgate does cause drag. I removed it for one
longish road trip (500 miles round trip) and I estimate I=20
was getting about 25 mpg (and one speeding ticket) I usually
don't get that good mileage, though this is all based on my
not very close eye on the odometer.
I won't put on a tonneau cover though, since I don't like them
and it wouldn't fit with my side rails which I do like.
I've seen one of those cheesy soft tonneau covers on a Ferd
Ranger flapping in the wind though, and that can't help much.
