Thats part of the problem - I cant tell where the sound is coming from.
It could be the tranny (automatic) - especially the torque converter,
but it is weird that it makes no sound, then out of the blue whirrs up,
then after 2 minutes, it goes away - and the rpm is not moving (like a
slipping torque converter would do). It is part of the motor drive
train though...if I drop the tranny to N at 60 mph, then rev the motor,
the sounds goes up and down with the rpm. I haven't owned the truck
long enough to know what is normal and what isnt...it sounds like a huge
fan moving air, but it could also be the torque converter hooking up and
letting go I guess...this tranny has "the new clutch-type torque
converter" (according to the owners manual) - if that is any help...
Again, any help would be appreciated!!

are you sure its coming from the engine? May be a tranny prog. Is it
auto
or 5sp?
