Firstly, the '96 computer should be for the same type of tranny in your '97
(auto. to auto., manual to manual). Secondly, the instrument gauges in your
'97 will not function.

Since the '96 computer is for a 5.9, I assume that the computer is for the
Ram.
I don't know if the advance timing and a/f ratio for the Ram will cause any
problems in the Dak. I know that a few DMLers have used a Ram computer in
the Dak
but they were for earlier years.

I run a '96 MP Dakota computer (5.2L, auto.) in my '97 Dak (5.2L, auto.) and
the only problems are the non-functioning gauges.
