GooGone is the best stuff I have seen for this. I used it to remove the
hideous red tape stripe which was applied to my '92 Black Dak. You can never
even tell that the stripe was there. Squirt it on, let it soak for a few
minutes, the just peel it off. Goo Gone is some kind of citrus based solvent
(smells like oranges).
