Where are you towing the boat to, Silvan Lake or out west. I've towed my
2100lb tent trailer out to Kaninaskis Near Fortress, and find it works
much better with the O/D off. The truck works hard climbing that first
long hill out of town, even without the trailer unless your at WOT. I'm
running 355's and the 31" tires and wish I had of gotten the 392's. I've
towed the trailer with my little brothers 69 Fargo 4x4 with a 318
and 410 gears and you don't even know the trailer is there. Being
here in the foothills your best bet will be a gear swap due to the
hills, as far as shift kits go it has been my experience that they
increase the longevity of the transmission. They work by reducing
the amount of slippage on the clutch packs and bands between shifts,
less slippage, less ware, thus longer trany life
