Maybe there is a happy medium between the OHC (4 valves) and pushrod
engines. There is an article in the Oct 99 Mopar Action magazine about a
company called Newman Racing Components that has developed an almost true
bolt on head replacement for the Hemi engine giving it 4 valves per cylinder
but keeping the pushrod design. Now I'm not taking sides on where the cam
should be but this company has taken a page from both books and here is what
they came up with:
Block: 572
Valves: 1.80"/1.35" (2 each per cylinder)
Carb: 2 Holly 1150 Dominators
Intake: Teetotal
Comp ratio: 15.8:1
Cam: in: .687" gross
ex: .618" gross
Timing: 28 degrees
Dyno -
HP: 1076 @ 6900 RPM
Torque: 850ft lbs. @ 6000 RPM
Notes:
1) They called this cam "relatively mild (for a 16-valve motor)"
2) These test results were on model #1 serial # 1. Think what
will happen when there "real" ones come out!!
3) The torque curve on the dyno sheet in the mag starts at 5K RPM
but the torque curve never drops below 785 ft. lbs. so one
should be able to melt the tires off in any gear!!
Here is the best part. These heads fit the 426 Hemi, and IF DC ever comes
out with that 426 Hemi kit for the Dak/Durango, I know what I'm getting!!!
Just think almost 1100HP and not SC, turbo or juice!! Just in case you want
a set now, base price is $8990!
