Non-Electric Fans

Has anyone out there installed a hydraulic cooling fan? The first Lexus
LS400 had one and I read that the 4.7 Gran Cherokee does too. Cruising
around the Web, I found the old site of ITT Automotive and they used to
sell a kit that plumbed into the power steering line, offered continuously
variable operation controlled by temperature, and air conditioner relay and
pulled a maximum of 6,800cfm - all using "free" energy from the PS system.
Problem is, they sold this division to a French company - Valeo - and they
don't feel the need to respond to a stinkin' American's product inquiries.
It was on their web site that the mention that they build the hydraulic fan
for the '99 Gran Cherokee. Another company, Electric Fan Company, also
makes retrofit hydraulic fans, but they are mega-powerful industrial units.
So I was just curious if anyone out there in DML Land has tried grafting the
unit from the Gran Cherokee parts bin onto their Dak. Electric fans are OK
I guess, but all the stories of blown fuses and all of the differing
opinions on size and cfm ratings make me leery. I like the idea of a fan
that lopes along most of the time, but that has the ability to move a ton of
air if needed (without dimming the lights).
