The carb may be a blessing in desguise if you are plannin' to mod your dak. I have an 88' with the Fuel Injection. Mopar Performance makes 4bbl carbs and a lot of performance stuff like cams and heads that will work much better on the carbed engines. The FI engines can't run the cam because the computer flips out.. too much duration. The one potential drawback is that the 87 6er doesn't have a roller cam, whereas the 88 and up does. There's nothin' wrong with carbed. The 3 spd will hurt you in top speed and gas mileage on the highway, but not enough to really worry about. If it's a good deal with only 30k miles on it, go for it!!!!!

I'm thinking of purchasing an early (1987) Dakota, and was wondering if
anyone can enlighten me on any advantages or problem areas to watch for,
or expect on these early models ?
The unit has less than 30,000 orig miles (orig. owner), seems mint, and
wont be inexpensive, BUT......it has a carburetor (NOT throttle body FI)
on its V6. Also has the 3 speed automatic tranny.
Are these potential trouble areas/should I be wary of other items in
the first year production models ? Any suggestions/help appreciated.
Please email me at wagg01@sk.sympatico.ca
Thanks,
Murray
