Get this, before Cali exempted cars older than '73, I had to take my '66
4-4-2 in every other year to get it checked ('66 was the first year for
smog checks then) and she always passed wih flying colors, I remember it
clearly, it was allowed 500ppm at idle, it only put out 210. At 2500
rpm, it dropped to 50ppm. Not all muscle cars are dirty, ya just gotta
know how to tune them!! If this is the case, then can someone explain to
me why my 4-4-2 ran a best of 13.7 1/4 mile, got 23mpg with a 400 V-8,
350hp, 4-spd and 2.56 gears (posi), my '66 F-85 with a 330 V-8, 310hp,
auto and 2.78 gears ran a 15.6 1/4 mile got 22mpg (with a/c on!!) and my
239 V-6 Dak pulling 17's in the 1/4 is lucky to see over 20mpg on the
freeway?? Modern technology?? I have my doubts on this one. Sorry about
the ramble, but this is a touchy subject for me, being a classic car
enthusiast. Modern technology hasn't proven much to me.
