The "pellet" on the t-stat is the copper sensor, it faces down into the
engine, with the spring facing up. R & R is easy: drain rad. 1/2 way, use a
13mm short socket with a swivel & 6" extension, loosen both bolts on housing.
Leave rad hose connected to housing, lift whole thing off, then remove
housing & grind off little tab that says "front", it'll make it easier to
re-install. You don't have to move anything, but you'll need a long scraper
to get in & clean off the old gasket from the manifold surface. Make sure to
clean out the little groove thoroughly, as the t-stat sits flush in this
groove. Drop in t-stat, lay gasket over it( mine had a peel'n'staick
backing), and re-install housing( after first re-clamping hose to it).
Tighten bolts evenly, refill rad., run & check for leaks. If no leaks, shut
off & re-check level. Should be it.
