For auto tranny's, it is highly suggested to change the fluid once a year or
every 30,000 miles, or more often if you tow alot. The breakdown of tranny
fluid is the number one reason tranny's go bad so early and regular tranny
maintenance can extend the life of the transmission greatly, some say upto 3
times. I change my tranny fluid, filter, and clean the pan every year. This
is cheap insurance on a vital part of my truck, and really any vehicle. I
also do have a heavy duty tranny fluid cooler, which helps to extend the
life of the ATF. Now at 116,500 miles, I have never had any transmission
problems at all.
