My understanding was that the 46RE was identical to the 46RH with the
exception of a modulating solenioid in the line pressure circuit after the
throttle valve, and instrumentation to allow the computer to measure line
pressure. This allows the computer limited control of shift points, and
shift feel. The shift are however still hydraulic, which is why you can
still install shift modifying kits, etc.

The 46RE does not have an all electric valve body like some modern
electronically controlled trannies where all shifts and shiftpoints are
dicatated by the actions of multiple solenoids.

As a retrofit, the 46RH would would be a better choice than the 46RE, becuase
it requires no computer controls except for the lockup TC and the Electronic
OD, and these could easily controlled separately without a Magnum computer.

BTW, supposedly there is a 44RE out there, it is supposedly a close ratio
version of the 46RE (1st and 2nd gear are closer together). Anybody know if
they have it, and are there any differences?
