Morning Bob,
I had the Hypertech installed on my Dakota for about 9 days.
Unfortunately, I installed it right after the Dakota was winterized
including a 192 degree thermostat. This caused me some
problems with spark knock. Hypertech recommends a 180
degree max or a 160 degree if the ambient temperature is very
hot.
The "check engine" light drove me nuts :)
I mounted the unit on the right fenderwell where the air box normally sits.
(I have the FIPK). It plugs into the rear most socket on the stock PTM.
Easy installation.
As far as performance is concerned, I think it does exactly what they say
it does. Really brought my 5.2 to life. Easy starting, good idle, instant
throttle response, much faster RPM climb, smoother power input to the
transmission, and very noticeable torque and horsepower increase.
I don't think it changes the Red Line limiter.
I think they claim about 20 horsepower and 30 foot pound of torque. I have
no way to know for sure, but there is more than enough difference from
stock that it is addictive. Especially the torque.
I didn't make a mileage check, but it looked to be about the same.
I am sure looking forward to getting it back.
Now, if they can keep the "check engine" light off and I can keep my
foot off the floor............
