Yes, the 7 1/4 axle was used extensively thru the 60's, 70's and 80's.
It was used on the "A" bodies (Plymouth Valiant, Dodge Dart and a few others)
7 1/4 production began to phase out with the introduction of front wheel drive
small cars. Parts should still be available thru any Dealers Parts Department
and probably some aftermarket suppliers.
As far as I can remember, the 8 1/4 Diff covers and gaskets should be the
same. Yes, the 8 1/4 axle has been used on many applications.
