Well, from the archives, it may be either the Ball-Joints or a slipped Coil
Cushion.

Subject: DML: Clunky front end, last time, I swear!

Just once more, at night when hopefully more people are listening.

I have a 98 5.2/auto SLT+ CC 4x4, and I have a clunk in the front end
that's making me nuts. It is heard and felt in the driver floorboard when
turning left or right over uneven pavement or off-road. It is different
from the clunk in the steering column that a lot of Dakotas have. It feels
like someone smacking my floorboard with a 4-lb sledge.

So far, I have only heard from two others (John Neff and Derek) who have
this same problem, both 98 4x4. My DC Zone rep here in southeast PA is
trying to tell me its normal suspension noise, but if everybody on the DML
(how many are there here, 700 something?) isn't complaining, I doubt it's
normal.

I wish I'd waited til 99, when the 4x4 got rack and pinion!

Thanks!
Eric, PA Desert Rat
