Of course it doesn't. The car audio business has screwed a LOT of people.
Just an example.. How big is your headunit? just imagine if 3/4 of that was
the CD/Cassette portion of it already (and it really is more than that!)
that leaves you 1/4 of the room for a lil microchip "amp" This little amp
(even Pioneer's MOSFET headunits) will push 40 watts MAX. more realistically
18 watts RMS. but of that 18 watts. most of that signal is clipped and
distorted.

Here's the part that will puzzle you. Say you have a 1,000 watt subwoofer.
you can blow it by sending it 1,000,000 watts (just an example) and blow it
by OVERpowering it, or you can get a 50 watt amp, crank the gains all the way
up and play it as loud as you can and blow it. Usually too much power
doesn't blow subs (people just THINK they have too much power, but in reality
they don't) too little power blows subs. 3

But in conclusion to the original statement about 45 watts compared to 65
watts, that 65 watts is RMS power, and you will notice a huge difference in
low and high frequencies when upgrading to a aftermarket amp.

 amp and only get a extra 20W/channel over the head unit. Would it be better
 to get a low power head unit to save some bucks? How about a head unit that
 puts out no power?(if there even was such a thing!) Does that all make
 sense?
