Being on the "inside" of law enforcement, I can tell you it is illegal to
alter the factory taillamps and lenses of any vehicle in any way. Covers and
"blackouts" are legal, because you are not actually changing the factory
equipment. Clear taillight lenses are illegal no matter what color the bulbs
are, or what color a little box inside them is. The point of the lenses
being red is not only to light up red at night, but to provide "navigational"
markers for other motorists during the day as well. No, I don't think it
makes sense either, but sorry, that's the law. If you like I'll quote the
exact motor vehicle statute for it. You can still get a ticket for clear
taillight lenses, and it will be legitamate. And if you try to fight it in
court, it's a waste of your time... you'll lose. Besides, do they really
look that good anyway??? Personally, I don't think it's worth the money or
the trouble. -Mike
