That is correct.
Part-Time means exactly that part-time. As in only when needed, if you run a part-time 4x4 system on a non-loose surface for a long period of time (not sure how long, few weeks I suspect) you will be buying new front tires. Full-Time is like AWD, even ratio of tourqe to all tires at same time =ing even tire wear.
Cheby and Ferd take it one step farther, with the ON-DEMAND system which reacts as rear tires slip the power is transfered to the front tires. This is great for wet weather, but your ass-end will still kick out if you hit the pedal hard enough.

OK, since I asked the original question, let me see if I have this straight.
My 98 part-time transfer case is as follows: (I know this because I just
looked at it)
---> 2wd
---> 4wd High
---> Neutral
---> 4wd Low
The new high tech transfer case with the 4.6L and optional auto trans looks
like this:
> --->2wd
> --->4wd-Hi Locked (a.k.a. part-time hi) -- off-road only
> --->4wd (a.k.a. full-time hi) -- anytime you want
> --->N
> --->4wd-Lo Locked (a.k.a. part-time low) -- off-road only
And lastly the Old full time transfer case looks like this:
--->4wd High
--->Neutral
--->4wd Low
Is this correct?
