I've shifted at 70mph and had no ill effects. I only did it twice, and
have since learned that I'm not supposed to. I heard no noises when I
pulled the lever, and it was smooth. I've also run up to about 65-70 in
4WD, though not for long, and had no problems. The important thing is,
if you're in conditions that warrant 4WD (*cough* snow *cough*, you
really shouldn't be going over 50-55 in the first place.
